Sewing Classes

Sewing machines are available but students are encouraged to bring their own machines for practice and familiarity. Pre-requisite: Intermediate experience with machine sewing including utility stitches and bobbin winding, ability to independently follow cutting and sewing instructions from commercial sewing patterns. Projects are flexible according to student interests.

Buttonholing, blind hemming, stretch stitches

SKILLS: Hand stitch basics – slipstitch, hemstitch, swing tacks, etc.

PROJECT: Purse with embellishment detail
Embellishment experimentation/surface technique
Quilting, appliqué, embroidery, tucking, texture, patching
Embellishment incorporated into purse design
Interfacing, hardware, lining
PROJECT: Casual pants (pre selected pattern recommendation)
Fly with zipper, waistband, self-selected pockets
