Faux fur bagGo Sew FAUX FUR BAG

Fee, fie, faux fur! Your buds will be positively GREEN when you tell them you made this great fur bag.  Print the pattern piece shown below and enlarge twice as big - or 200% - for the perfect size.

Stuff you have to buy:
  • Fake fur of your choice – ½ yd
  • Lining fabric to contrast fur – ½ yd
  • Twisted nylon cord, ¼” wide – 2 yds
  • Thread to match
  • White glueFur bag pattern - click to print in Adobe Acrobat format
Gather your tools:
Work your magic:

1. Rub your hand along the fur from top to bottom. Figure out which way the hairs are “growing”. This is called the NAP. The hairs are smooth starting at the top and they “grow” downward. Stick a pin at the top to keep track.

2. Cut two layers of fur and two layers of lining.

3. Lay fur sides together . Pin the side and bottom edges. Stitch with ½” seam allowance. Don’t stitch the corners.

4. Open the seam allowances with your fingers. Pinch the corners together matching the seams. Stitch. (Diagram 1).

5. Do the same thing with the lining layers, only leave a 5” opening along the bottom edge.

6. Measure 47” along the twisted cord. Wrap a piece of tape around the cord at this point. Cut through the center of the tape. (Diagram 2). The tape keeps the cord from untwisting. Stitch one end of the cut piece at each side of the fur to make a nice long strap. (Diagram 3).

7. Fold the rest of the twisted cord in half and tape the halfway point. Cut through the tape to make two equal pieces. Stitch an end of each piece at the notches along the top edge.

8. Turn the fur layer with the right side out. Make sure the lining has the wrong side out. Put the fur layer inside the lining matching the seams and notches along the top edge. Be careful that all the twisted cord is down in between the two layers. Stitch around the top edge.

9. Reach through the opening in the lining. Grab the fur layer and pull the right side completely out.

10. Fold the lining opening together and topstitch it closed. (Diagram 4).

11. Tuck the lining down inside the bag. VERY LIGHTLY press or steam the lining down inside the bag. (Check the hotness of the iron on the fake fur by testing it on a scrap of fur. You wouldn’t want it to melt!).

12. Tie the center cords in a nice bow. Knot each tie end to the length you like. Glue the knots and let the glue dry. Trim any extra twisted cord from below the knots. (Diagram 5).
